“TRIED BY THE WORD

A prophetic Word for 2006

Part Six

“Until the time when His Word came to pass,
THE WORD OF THE LORD TRIED HIM!”

(Ps 105:19)

God sent His Word into a world of flesh to taste sin and death; to suffer all its humiliation, contradiction, rejection and persecution; then, in the fulness of time, restore it again to spirit and life. In an unstable world, He birthed His Royal Word, full of Grace, in that humble and stable setting! Not as the highborn King of Glory, robed in royal velvets, to reign upon a throne--but as a helpless Babe swaddled in lowly rags, placed in a straw-filled *manger- usually a feeding trough for beasts. [*The word manger lit. means: “To eat, to chew and devour; also mouth.” A fitting place for the Bread of Life!] This ignoble beginning was a fitting testament to Christ’s earthly mission, of which He revealed, “I have not come to call the righteous, but to call sinners to repentance! For it is not the healthy who need a physician; but those who are sick!” What “sickness” is this? Jer 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things; it is desperately wicked (Heb 605 lit. incurably sick”); who can know it? I, the Lord, (the “Heart Specialist”) search the heart; I try the reins, so as to give every man according to his ways and the fruit of his doings.”

O Lord of hosts, You judge righteously,
and You try the reins and the heart!”
(Jer 11:20; 20:12)

All the churches shall know that I am He
Who searches the reins and hearts:
and I will give to each one of you
according to your works.

(Re 2:23)

Jesus was laid in the feed-box for beasts, it was symbolic of the Word of the Lord being fed to sinful men whose understanding was darkened, that they might “see the Light”! For of a truth, The entrance of God’s Word gives Light; it gives understanding to the simple!!” (Ps 119:130) As Jesus said,

“Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven; but My Father gives you the true Bread from heaven! The Bread of God is He Who comes down from heaven to give LIFE TO THE WORLD! So the people cried, Lord, give us this bread evermore! And Jesus said, I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE! He that comes to Me shall never again know hunger; and he that believes in Me shall never again know thirst... for I came down from heaven not to do My own will; but to do the Will of Him who sent Me! And herein is the Will of the Father who sent Me, that I must not lose any of all them whom He has given Me; and that I must raise them up at the last day!

The Jews murmured at Jesus when He said, I am the Bread of Life that has come down from heaven. They said, Isn’t this Jesus, Joseph’s son; and don’t we know his father and mother? Then how can He say, I have come down from heaven? But Jesus told them, Do not murmur among yourselves; the truth is that, NO MAN CAN COME TO ME UNLESS THE FATHER, WHO SENT ME, FIRST DRAWS HIM! Then I will raise him up at the last day. As the prophets have written, ALL SHALL BE TAUGHT BY GOD; THEN, EACH MAN WHEN HE HAS HEARD AND LEARNED FROM THE FATHER, SHALL COME TO ME! However no man has ever seen the Father except for He who is of God; for surely, He has seen the Father...I am the Bread of Life. Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are now dead! But if any man eats the Bread which comes down from heaven, he will not die. I am that Living Bread... and whosoever eats this Bread shall live forever! The Bread that I give is My own flesh which I will give for the LIFE OF THE WORLD...but unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood, You have no Life in you! For whoever eats of My flesh [that is, partakes of My Life], and drinks of My Blood [that is, partakes of My death] has Eternal Life; so I will raise him up at the last day...he that eats My flesh and drinks My Blood lives in Me, and I in him. As the Living Father has sent Me, and I live by Him, so whoever eats of Me (My Life and My death) lives by Me!” (Jn 6:32-58)

Jesus makes it clear that our salvation depends on our “eating” the Bread of Life; and that Bread is the Word of God, which He is! And in Jn 6:63 He specifies, “The Words that I speak are Spirit and Truth!” Paul says, “As children, we were slaves under the elements (principles) of this world; but in the fulness of time, God sent His Son to be made a woman who was under the law, to redeem all those under the law, so that they may receive the Spirit of adoption into sonship; and therefore, because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into your (sick) hearts, crying, Abba (lit. Daddy, Papa), Father! Then you are no more a servant, but a son; and as such, you are an heir of God through Christ!” (Ga 4:3-7) How glorious is this! We are invited to “eat” of the Bread of Life so that we may have Life in ourselves! That is why the Lord taught us to pray, “Give us this day our DAILY BREAD!” (Mt 6:11) God never told His people to set aside one day of the year (Christmas) to celebrate the birth of His Bread of Life; nor does He want us to set aside just one day of the week (Sunday) to partake of His Bread of Life! Rather, in the same way we need air and food every day to sustain our natural life; so we need a daily intake of the Bread of Life to sustain our spiritual life!
